and where did the month of June go??? I know that on the 10th of June, we drove to Muskegon to pick up our trailer. It was 8 hours before we returned home. Didn't know there was so much to do before it could leave the lot. We had a temporary permit for 15 days and it had expired before we got home from this first camping trip of the season. We finally got our license plate delivered via FedEx just Tuesday--20 days later.
We spent a couple of days cleaning the trailer of the construction dust, etc., and packing it before it's maiden journey. Here are a few pictures of our new home on wheels. I got interrupted while I was taking these shots and never did go back and get the kitchen area. I will do that and post it when we get it out of the polebarn and have the slideout extended.
We had intended to stay at Linwood Beach Campground and Marina on Sunday the 14th, but when we got there, it was full. We had forgotten about all the people out of work who have nothing better to do than fish. So, we turned around and went back to Bay City State Park. It took forever to get signed in as there was a person with a concealed weapon at the day use that had to be dealt with. We rode part of the rail trail on Sunday and the other part on Monday before we pulled out. We once again headed to Linwood Beach where we had made reservations before we left on Sunday for Monday and Tuesday evenings. We spent Tuesday fishing but as the weather deterioriated with 4-foot waves not uncommon, we did end up with 7 nice walleye. Ray even caught a master angler Sheepshead (Fresh Water Drum), 8.6 lbs. (as pictured below). We took only one wave over the top of the bow and canopy. We had some melt-in-your-mouth delicacies for dinner.
Wednesday the 17th we headed north for Burt Lake State Park. Our friends, Dan & Peg and their grandson, Tyler were there. We spent very little time fishing without much success. Ray & Dan got out on their skiis--Ray never got out last year. We had our traditional pizza at Vivio's, and my new tradition--homemade soups and bread pudding with bourbon sauce at Brown Trout--Yummmmm. Peg & I made a trip into Petoskey where I bought pans, a rug and a few necessities for the new trailer. We took a river cruise up the Maple River. We took a bike ride from Topinabee to Indian River and back to the campground. We even had our annual poker night. New friends acquired last summer at Burt Lake were also there this year, so we enjoyed lots of catching up with Debbie & Phil and their daughter, Missy. So nice to see them again. On Sunday morning, we took a boat ride up the Indian River with Dan & Peg & Tyler before heading to Higgins Lake State Park.
We had a wonderful site--number 422--which Ray thinks is the closest site to the lake in the entire south campground. We set up our site and headed home for my Aunt Louise's (my Godmother) funeral on Monday. We arrived back at the campground just in time for me to whip up dinner. Our week there with Becky & Jay & Lexie & Abbey & Brayden & Trent from NY, and Jeff & Raven & Chase & Maddie from Orion was filled with activities. Ray was the proverbial Captain and offered boat cruises 2 or three times a day with tubing and knee-boarding and skiing and swimming just some of the fun. Ray & Jeff got out twice to complete 9 holes of golf. My main job for the week was to provide dinner for the entire bunch. No prob. Sun & sand & fun. The only things that would have made it better would have been if Jaime and Sawyer were able to be there and Rae Ann & Bob, too. Maybe another year??? See montage below.
Saturday the 27th found us home for a few hours before heading to the 2009 Koch Family Reunion for the chili cookoff and hot dog supper and beer & wine tasting. Sunday we returned for the annual Roast pork and potluck dinner as well as our annual business meeting and auction of homemade items to fund next year's reunion. So good to see family/friends.
Since returning home, Ray has taken me to Washaki golfing 18 (only my 2nd 18 walking since I started golfing this year). I was so excited to be back out on a golf course! I had a great day with a 48 on the front 9 and 47 on the back. I outgolfed Ray that day--a very unusual occurrence.
My Dad celebrated his 85th birthday on Tuesday the 30th. Dinner at Zehnder's with all his children and their spouses made his day.
Then Wednesday, I went to the fitness center and did "Stretch & Tone" class and my leg workout, followed by helping my Mom organize her spare bedroom. Today Ray golfed while I worked on more family stuff following the reunion. Then we biked/roller bladed the rail trail from Otter Lake to Columbiaville--8.5 miles. Mom celebrates her 79th birthday, so we made a visit to wish her a happy birthday. Happy Birthday, Mom!!!
